OK, so it’s that time of year again when British hopes start to get raised – it’s Wimbledonseason, and along with the Pimms, Strawberries and Cream and the inevitable cry of ‘Rain Stopped Play’, will this year be the year when we have a British Champion? We reckon Andy can do it, and maybe just a little lavender could help him on his way?
So what exactly has lavender got to do with winning Wimbledon? Well, what’s one of the most common injuries in tennis? Tennis elbow of course, and what is a great way of helping to relieve the symptoms of Tennis elbow? A good sports massage utilising a few drops of wonderful pure lavender essential oil, that’s what.
Tennis elbow is a condition that causes pain around the outside of the elbow, which is clinically known as lateral epicondylitis. It often occurs after strenuous overuse of the muscles and tendons of the forearm, near the elbow joint often causing pain on the outside of your upper forearm, just below the bend of your elbow, when lifting or bending your arm, when gripping small objects, such as a pen or when twisting your forearm, such as turning a door handle or opening a jar. If these muscles and tendons are strained, tiny tears and inflammation can develop near the bony lump (the lateral epicondyle) on the outside of your elbow.
In general most cases of tennis elbow will heal themselves if the action that has caused the condition is ceased. But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that the sufferer will have to stop playing tennis, it’s more likely that after a period of rest and a few adjustments to their technique, they will be Wimbledon-ready in no time!
However one of the best ways of helping to alleviate the pain and potentially speeding up recovery is massaging with a few drops of lavender oil that has been blended into a base carrier oil or lotion. Lavender’s soothing, calming and, most importantly, anti-inflammatory properties make it the ideal essential oil for the treatment of tennis elbow (and a number of other muscular complaints).
So come on Andy, pop a bottle of our wonderful lavender oil into that massive bag that you carry onto court and just make sure that you win it for us this year!
