Although the thought of an extra hour in bed in the morning once the clocks go back is generally appealing, we know that, in fact, this time change signals the start of darker mornings and longer evenings – and, for many of us, a strong urge to hibernate. But, fear not, we have here two indulgent treatments that you can make and use at home, morning and evening, to ease the pain and conquer the chills of the winter ahead.
- 2 cups sea salt
- ¼ cup grapeseed oil
- 30 drops Jersey Lavender oil (or 15 drops of lavender and 15 drops of Jersey Rosemary Oil)
Combine all ingredients thoroughly until you have a fairly thick paste. You can add more oil or salt until you get the desired consistency. Put the mixture into a wide-mouthed jar. Leave for a day or two, somewhere cool and dark.
Use in the shower or bath on those chilly, dark mornings to shake off sleepiness and sluggishness. Scoop a small amount into your palm and scrub in a circular motion over your skin. Breathe in the wonderful aroma of the lavender as the salt melts away, leaving your skin moisturised and invigorated and your mind energized, ready for the day ahead. Rinse well and pat dry with a towel.
NB The oil will make the bath/shower slippery. Please take care.
2.Milk and Lavender Bath:
- 2 cups dried milk powder
- ¼ cup dried lavender buds
- ½ cup ground oats
- 25 drops Jersey Lavender oil
Mix all ingredients well before placing them in a blender. Pulse to blend until the lavender buds are well broken up. Store in an airtight jar and leave for a day.
For a soothing and relaxing bath at the end of a cold day, scoop ¼ cup into a deep, warm bath mix well. Then lie back and soak up the therapeutic aromas of the lavender oil while the luscious creamy mixture moisturises your skin and rids you of any chills or winter blues. Perfect.
NB This treatment is very effective – please do not fall asleep in the bath!
